Average distance in colored graphs

چکیده
For a graph G where the vertices are coloured, the coloured distance of G is defined as the sum of the distances between all unordered pairs of vertices having different colours. Then for a fixed supply s of colours, ds(G) is defined as the minimum coloured distance over all colourings with s. This generalizes the concepts of median and average distance. In this paper we explore bounds on this parameter especially a natural lower bound and the particular case of balanced 2-colourings (equal numbers of red and blue). We show that the general problem is NP-hard but there is a polynomial-time algorithm for trees.

New bounds on proximity and remoteness in graphs
The average distance of a vertex $v$ of a connected graph $G$is the arithmetic mean of the distances from $v$ to allother vertices of $G$. The proximity $pi(G)$ and the remoteness $rho(G)$of $G$ are defined as the minimum and maximum averagedistance of the vertices of $G$. In this paper we investigate the difference between proximity or remoteness and the classical distanceparameters diameter a...
متن کاملMulticolor and Directed Edit Distance
The editing of a combinatorial object is the alteration of some of its elements such that the resulting object satisfies a certain fixed property. The edit problem for graphs, when the edges are added or deleted, was first studied independently by the authors and Kézdy [J. Graph Theory (2008) 58(2), 123–138] and by Alon and Stav [Random Structures Algorithms (2008) 33(1), 87–104]. In this paper...
متن کاملExtending Graph Colorings UsingNo Extra
Suppose G can be r-colored using colors 1; 2; : : : ; r so that no vertex is adjacent to two vertices colored r. If P V (G) is such that the distance between any two vertices in P is at least 12, then any r-coloring of P extends to an r-coloring of all of G. If there exists an r-coloring of G in which the distance between vertices colored r is at least 4 (resp. 6), then any r-coloring of P exte...
متن کاملRemarks on Distance-Balanced Graphs
Distance-balanced graphs are introduced as graphs in which every edge uv has the following property: the number of vertices closer to u than to v is equal to the number of vertices closer to v than to u. Basic properties of these graphs are obtained. In this paper, we study the conditions under which some graph operations produce a distance-balanced graph.
متن کاملApplication of n-distance balanced graphs in distributing management and finding optimal logistical hubs
Optimization and reduction of costs in management of distribution and transportation of commodity are one of the main goals of many organizations. Using suitable models in supply chain in order to increase efficiency and appropriate location for support centers in logistical networks is highly important for planners and managers. Graph modeling can be used to analyze these problems and many oth...
